Animation Work
Lip Sync

----------------------------------------------------For this project, I've designed and modeled a character based off of myself. This version of me is represented by an art historian dressed in renaissance garb.

Push or Pull
This project, follows Apricot the cowardly guard as he attempts to guard the fortress in the woods. Unfortunately, he's not great at his job.
Apricot's design features a leather skirt and a cloth cape that create overlap for the character. His design was also heavily inspired by foxes, creating an ironic storyline where the "fox" is scared of the chicken. Modeling, animating, and rigging Apricot and the chicken presented some fun and unique challenges.

Sit and Stand
This project focused on creating a character through the short animation of a sit and stand motion.
I designed, modeled, and textured all aspects of the project - Sharon herself, the café she stands in, and the props - as well as rigging and animating Sharon

The aim of this project was character exploration. Sharon has a lot of attitude, so playing around with the timing of how she would react was vital to the project.

I designed both characters, and the environment, for this animatic. The purpose was to connect the two storylines in fun and interesting ways to create a simultaneous story.

I had a lot of fun with this storyline and trying to bring out a laugh.
Good Soup
This animatic storyboard utilizes simultaneity editing to tell the story of a girl and a goose.
Traditional Lipsync
This project, made during a class on traditional animation, was aimed to get across character through a random dialogue.
I designed the character of Jakey, a mischievous little orange fellow who is prone to curiosity and clumsiness. The audio I used captured his naive worldview, and his gestures were exactly what I wanted to capture when it came to his dramatics.

Wrong Chip
----------------------------------------This story changed a lot throughout the creation process, but the final project, created for a storyboarding class, is something I really liked. We were tasked with going from one location to another through the animatic -- I chose to adventure my character from the kitchen of a witch's house, to the top of her pantry.

Simple Poly Theatre
This was a super fun project involving a character with no arms. Vernon was the vision I had for this adorable task: he's accident prone and scared of heights, but perseverant enough to overcome any obstacle. I also did a test animation on paper of Vernon, before I modeled, rigged, and textured him.

Golden Fleece
This animatic was a challenge in incorporating more film techniques into my storyboards. Characters and set designed by me.

This project was one of my favorites to create. I love including things that are a little weird or unexpected in my projects, so playing around with visuals was a fun endeavor. Even though the story changed a little from original concept to final story, the element of fun that I fell in love with when I first pitched the idea was still present, and I loved the challenge of trying to convey it.

Character Modeling

This bust block in was a really fun way to practice creating the illusion of movement.
The bust of an uptight and sophisticated gentleman differs greatly from that of a carefree pirate.
This full body turnaround was another movement-based piece that gave me lots of new challenges with fabric.

Senior Thesis Backup
This project was created as a second option for my senior thesis film
Ted's Dream Come True

This project was a commission by Tricia Wight-Bry, who was looking for an illustrator for her children's book, "The Tale of the Disappearing Tale: Ted's Dream Come True".

Every aspect of the visual components of the book was designed by me with input from Tricia Wight-Bry.

Abstract to Design

This project involved spending time generating abstract shapes, and then generating characters from them.

This process allowed for a more nuanced approach to character creation.

For this process, I combined a time period with three of Carl Jung's 12 Common Archetypes. I chose to combine my archetypes with an Elder Futhark rune, originating in Norway. The Jester archetype is represented by a boy who will be a sacrifice, the Caregiver is represented by a homeless man, and the Sage is represented by a silent guard. They each also share attributes of their respective runes.

Archetypes
For this project, I designed three archetypal characters surrounding one theme -- I chose Norway at the time of the Elder Futhark alphabet creation -- around the 1st century CE.

For this project, a similar process was used as the Abstract to Design project. We translated abstract shapes into

Value Design

illustrations with realistic values, and focused on creating different lighting scenarios.

Fox Detective
Creating a hybrid character with both human and animal anatomy was the goal of this project.

Interior Design
This cabin for pirate captain explored interior perspective and creating a believable space.

Character Room
This interior design focused more on including lighting, value, and color in the room.

This project employed the use of a lot of basic design aspects, without complicating the process. I designed, modeled and textured the character myself. He's intended to be a rather friendly character - a furnace smaller than a space heater to sit on your desk and keep you company.

Bjorn the Robot
As a 3D Modeling Project, I designed this robot named Bjorn who's job is to warm up your desk space.

Dionysus
This costume for Dionysus from the play Bacchus uses a mixture of classic mythology and modern design.

Prometheus
For Prometheus's scene where he dresses like a woman, I created a more experimental costume design.

Tiresias
While Tiresias is an old man in the play, I wanted a costume that captured his personality more than anything.

Dwelling Model
This cozy little cafe is run by a someone who runs it and lives in the top apartment. Modeling and texturing by me.

MeetMat Texturing
This was my first time using Adobe Substance Painter for texturing, so I had a lot of fun playing around with designing a MAT model. The "used toy" look was an interesting experience to design, and to see become fleshed out.

Senior Thesis

Option 1: Killer Instincts

Opt 2: Massive Continuity of Ducks

For my senior thesis capstone project, we wrote and created a 2 minute animation. Mine surrounds a lonely boy who takes his pet rock to the zoo to teach him about predators. The film hits off once the boy insults the koala, who wants revenge against the harsh words.I spent six months designing characters, set pieces, and props, and streamlining the animatic for the final film, and then another year modeling and texturing, and animating the film.
Visual Development
The designs went through many changes over the course of the project, all the way into my 3D animation phase.

Animals and Set
Creating interesting shapes that still read for the background of my zoo was one of my favorite parts of my senior project.
Character Model
Nelson, voiced by Nico Cabrera, was the main character of my film. His and Groucher (the koala) went through extensive adjustments.
